once we went to bear mountain

Ernie was stressing. He'd been in the throes of an existential crisis for weeks, desperately seeking some sort of meaning, some sort of purpose for the simple life he'd been living. Swimming, eating, sleeping, Ernie enjoyed all these things, but he couldn't help but feel there was something more important to strive for. What was it? Where could he find it? Bert worried for his friend. He couldn't help but notice that Ernie had developed a somewhat peculiar habit in the last several weeks. Every hour, Ernie would submerge his head underwater with inexplicable intensity, only to reappear after several minutes to solemnly declare, "There's just more water Bert. That's all there is. That's it Bert. Just more water."

"Poor old Ernie", thought Bert. He just could not figure out why Ernie ever expected to find anything else.
